Registration Details:
Participation is free, but pre-registration is required. No day-of-class walk-ins, please.
Requirements:
All cyclists must wear a helmet and have a bicycle that fits. The cyclist must be able to rest his or her feet entirely flat on the ground while sitting comfortably on the bicycle seat. Parents should pump up tires until they are rock hard and are encouraged to remove training wheels prior to the class, if possible. The program works best for children ages 5 and up.
Schedule:
Most Learn to Ride - Kids classes are held for three hours. Participants are welcome to arrive and leave at any point during the class.
As long as a student brings an appropriate-size bike (see above), chances are good that he or she will learn how to ride over the course of one class session. Those who do not, though, are welcome to register for a second class or should use the technique taught at Learn to Ride to practice at home.
Rain Policy:
Learn to Ride - Kids classes are canceled in the event of rain.
Registrants should call Bike New Yorks Bicycle Education Program Weather Hotline at (212) 932-2453 ext. 115 on the morning of their class date to find the most current information. Classes are typically not rescheduled. In the event of a rain cancellation, registrants should visit
www.bikenewyork.org/education/ to register for a new class date.
